Michelin Star Arrives
Michelin Star Chef Manjunath Mural from Singapore will combine his Asian-Indian gastronomy with Brisbane’s Nick Pinn of Malt Dining and Gold Coast’s Sridhar Penumechu of Saffron Restaurant, to create a dining destination and bar experience at new city precinct Brisbane Quarter.
The restaurant will offer fine dining with a menu that will take traditional Indian preparation methods and blend them with flavours from Australia. While the name is still unknown, the restaurant will be located on the first floor of Brisbane Quarter’s retail podium overlooking the Brisbane River and is expected to open in July this year. Chef Mural is the first Indian Executive Chef to score a Michelin star for an Indian restaurant in Southeast Asia, awarded one Michelin star in 2016 and again in 2017 as Executive Chef of Song of India.
“Playing with ingredients, colours, flavours, presentation and garnishes makes me happy,” said Chef Mural. “I like the constant thinking it requires, and the way we can modify the cuisine, and shape it according to local demand, while still ensuring diners know it is Indian cuisine.” His business partner Sridhar Penumchu says the new restaurant will take Asian-Indian cuisine “to a new level”.
